Bandits sign 2012 first round pick Kimi Pohlman
left-handed hitter signs one-year contract
ROSEMONT – Chicago Bandits GM, Aaron M. Moore, announced today that the team has signed its 2012 NPF Senior Draft first round pick, Kimi Pohlman, to a one-year contract.
Pohlman, who was the No. 2 overall selection in last spring’s draft, was unable to play for the Bandits during the 2012 season due to previous obligations she had made prior to the draft.
“The Bandits are happy to have Kimi Pohlman with the team for the 2013 season,” stated Moore. “It was unfortunate it didn’t work out last season, but we’re looking forward to seeing what she can do on the field in 2013.
“She left her mark on the record books at the University of Washington and has been a part of several championship caliber teams, so she should fit in nicely with the Bandits. She brings a speed element to our team that is definitely needed in the NPF.”
The 5-8 outfielder had an excellent career at Washington where she was a member of the 2009 WCWS National Championship team. While at Washington, Pohlman was a three-time First Team All Region selection and a three-time First Team All-Pac 12 selection. She left her mark on the Husky record books as well. Pohlman left school in the top 10 in several categories, including batting average (5 th - .378), stolen bases (5th – 89) and hits with 275, which places her seventh all-time.
Pohlman will wear No. 4 this season for the Bandits.
"I would like to thank the Bandits organization for the opportunity to continue to play the game that I love,” exclaimed the speedy outfielder. “I am so excited to play with some of the best players in the world and against some of the greatest competition the sport has ever seen.
“I’m ready to make an impact on the team and be a part of the championship tradition the Bandits have created in Rosemont.”
Pohlman and the rest of the Bandits will begin the 2013 season on Saturday, June 1 with an exhibition game against the Indiana Slammers at The Ballpark at Rosemont.
