Jackson's game-winner helps Glory edge Bandits

CHANTILLY, VA -- Amber Jackson's bat came alive tonight and none too soon for the Glory as she delivered a solo home run to lead off the eighth inning to down Chicago 5-4 in a come-from-behind victory over Chicago Sunday night.

Jackson, who had a pair of hits already in the game smashed a 2-1 pitch over the center field fence. This was Jackson's second multi-hit game of the season and her first three-hit game of the season and it came in front of a large group of children she'd worked with during the offseason as part of her Champions for Children program.

The Glory trailed in the game 4-1 on Jamie Clark's (1-for-4, 3 RBI, run) three-run home run in the third, her fifth of the season, and an RBI single by Mindy Cowles (2-for-4, run, RBI) in the fourth.

Kristina Thorson (2-5) had pitched well until the sixth when Callie Piper (1-for-4) singled to lead off the inning. Jackson reached on a fielder's choice then Sara Larquier struck out. Cambria Miranda (1-for-2, run) would draw a two-out walk before Nicole Barber (1-for-3, run, RBI) laced an RBI single to left scoring Jackson. LaDonia Hughes (2-for-4, 2RBI) then smacked a 3-2 pitch into short center field to score both Barber and Miranda to tie the game.

The Glory had the momentum heading into the the seventh until Courtney Bures (1-for-3) led off the inning. She hit a ground ball to short stop Jamie Clark who threw to first. The throw appeared to not be in time as Bures was two steps passed the bag when she was called out. The Glory didn't need the momentum to carry them into extra innings as Jackson led off the eighth with a sure shot over center field.

Sara Larquier had an RBI single in the second to put the Glory ahead early. Desiree Serrano improved her record to 6-3 in her first appearance since striking out 14 Bandit batters on Friday night. She struck out five in 4 2/3 innings in relief and now had 35 strikeouts on the season after starting the year with just 16.

The Glory close out the home stand on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. against Chicago at the Westfield Softball Complex in Chantilly.
