ROCKFORD, Ill. - Second baseman Lindsay Gardner went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI's Friday night, but the rest of the lineup had trouble getting hits in key situations, and fell to the Akron Racers, 9-2.
Akron's (16-15) Angela Tincher (10-5) went four innings, earning the win for the Racers. Allison Kime (6-5) gave up three earned runs in three innings to take the loss for the Thunder (13-18).
Rockford got its two runs off of a double by Gardner in the bottom of the fourth inning. Savannah Brown was hit by a pitch, Amanda Williams singled, and Audrey Rendon walked to load the bases with one out. Gardner smacked a Tincher pitch to center field, driving in Brown and Williams.
For the second straight game, Rockford got runners on base frequently, but had difficulty driving them in. On Friday, the Thunder left ten runners stranded, including leaving the bases loaded in both the first and sixth innings.
The Thunder will look to return to their best form on Saturday, taking on the Racers for the final game of the series. Tickets are just $5 at the Players Park gate, and the game will begin at 5:35 pm.
