Thunder look bad in 10-5 loss to Force; Series tied at 2-2

2009 home finale on Sunday afternoon

ROSCOE, Ill. – The Rockford Thunder looked like a last place team in Saturday night’s 10-5 loss to the visiting Philadelphia Force as they committed a season-high four errors.

The Force (5-18) jumped out to a first inning lead for the third consecutive game, this time by scoring three first inning runs against starter Allison Kime.  With two outs in the inning Megan Gibson hit a triple down the right field and she was promptly driven in by former Thunder catcher DeDe Justice.  A walk to Danielle Kinley and a hit batter to Emily Friedman loaded the bases for Trena Peel, who delivered a two-run double to left center to make the score 3-0.

Philadelphia pushed three more runs across the plate in the second inning as they sent nine batters to the plate.  In the inning Kime was chased from the game after allowing five hits and five earned runs.

The Force continued its offensive onslaught by scoring single runs in the fourth, sixth and two in the seventh innings.

Gibson and Justice combined to go 6-for-9 in the game with four runs scored and five RBIs.

The Thunder (11-13) managed to score two runs in the fourth and seventh innings, and a single run in the sixth to account for all of their scoring on the night.  Amanda Williams continued to swing the bat well as she finished 3-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in.

Jessica Sallinger (2-4) picked up the complete game win, while Kime dropped to 3-6 with the loss.  Cassidy Scoggins allowed just two earned runs over the final 5 2/3 innings for the Thunder.

Rockford and Philadelphia will finish its series on Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. The winner of game five will take the first series of the season 3-2.
