Kissimmee, Fl – It was a classic NPF pitcher’s duel in game two of the series between the Rockford Thunder (16-16) and the USSSA Pride (12-20). The Thunder threw US Olympian Cat Osterman (9-0) in the circle vs. Desiree Serrano (2-9).
The majority of the night belonged to the pitchers as Serrano and Osterman had their way with the line up for most of the night. Serrano allowed only five hits on the night while striking out seven. Osterman meanwhile gave up only three hits and struck out fourteen in the game.
The Thunder had their first opportunity in the top of the first inning. Shanel Scott would walk with one out. She would then go on to steal second. Amanda Williams followed with a single to left field but terrific defense would turn a double play. Oli Keohohou throw to Larquier would get their catching Scott trying to take third. Larquier’s throw would then Williams trying to take the extra base to end the inning.
After five innings of solid pitching the Thunder would break the scoreless tie. With two outs in the inning Amanda Williams would start the two out rally with a single to left center. Jenae Leles was then hit by a pitch. Chelsea Spencer would then come through with the clutch hit of the night as she singled down the left field line to score Williams.
