Bandits partner with Chicago Park District, bring softball to underserved Chicago neighborhoods

ELGIN – The Chicago Bandits, in association with the Chicago Park District, have announced the creation of the Chicago Park District Fastpitch Softball League. The league will provide a safe, competitive, skills-based fastpitch curriculum to girls, aged 11-14, in primarily underserved Chicago neighborhoods.

The league, which begins in April, will feature six teams with 15 players on each squad. The Bandits will be assisting with the preseason clinics put on for the players and coaches by the Chicago Park District. The clinics will feature pitching and catching instruction, and a skills clinic to teach proper fielding techniques, base running and more.

“We felt it was important to jump at this opportunity to bring the sport of fastpitch softball to more kids in Chicago,” said Bandits GM Aaron M. Moore. “We’re proud to be assisting with the clinics and to help teach girls the sport of fastpitch.”

The Chicago Park District is proud to announce the 12” Fastpitch Softball League will be part of the RBI (Revising Baseball in Inner Cities) program, as well as the GoGirlGo! Program. The RBI program’s mission is to reintroduce, revive and rebuild interest and participation in baseball and softball among underserved youth.

GoGirlGo! Is a program designed for third to eighth-grade girls to provide education about health-risk behaviors and other issues such as body image, bullying, drugs and stress by featured characters and true-life stories from champion athletes like Julie Foudy, Sanya Richards and Diana Taurasi.
