Bandits take down Pride in series finale, 8-2
Lubbock - After falling short the night before, the Bandits (3-2) came out swinging in the first inning of Sunday’s game against the USSSA Pride (2-3), scoring two quick runs off hits by center fielder Vicky Galindo and catcher Rachel Folden.
Bandits’ rookie shortstop Christine Knauer showed off her speed with an inside-the-park home run in the second inning, and again by beating out the throw on a bunt in the sixth inning to load the bases.
Knauer showed her defensive ability in the field as well, with a solo double play in the fourth inning.
Rachel Folden blasted a solo home run to deep left field to lead off the third inning, making it 4-0 Bandits.
The Pride threatened the Bandits lead in the third inning. It began with a double by Melissa Roth to right center field just off the glove of a diving Galindo, bringing the score to 4-2. The Pride would again load the bases, but with back to back strikeouts by Jessica Sallinger, the threat was ended.
Right fielder Angela Findlay showed some defensive leather with a couple crucial grabs, one coming in the fifth inning over the fence in foul territory.
In the sixth inning the Bandits kept the ball rolling, scoring two more runs off hits by Rachel Mitchell and Stacy May with two singles, and a Vicky Galindo triple to right field, bringing in two runs to put the score at 8-2 in favor of the Bandits.
Jennie Finch came in for Jessica Sallinger in the sixth inning for the Bandits to end another bases loaded threat by the Pride. She finished out the game, with a final score of 8-2. Sallinger earned the victory after three innings of two hit and four strikeouts. Her season ERA dropped to 10.39 after the victory.
This game concluded the five game series between the Pride and the Bandits with the Bandits coming out on top 3-2.
