Walk off homer in extra innings sinks Racers

Rachel Folden's walk off home run in the bottom of the eighth evens the series.

It was a home run that started the game and a home run that ended the game as the Chicago Bandits needed extra innings to come out on top against the Akron Racers. Bandit's catcher Rachel Folden, who leads the league in home runs, rocketed a two run walk off home run into centerfield to win the game in the bottom of the eighth.

After being shutout yesterday, it didn't take the Chicago Bandits long to fire up their bats. As the first batter of the game, Stacy May , the Chicago Bandit's third baseman, cracked a ball into deep centerfield for a Bandit's home run to lead off the second game of a three game series against the Akron Racers at Judson University in Elgin, Ill.

Akron pitcher, Jamee, Juarez, regrouped after giving up a home run to the first batter of the game, throwing seven strikeouts in eight innings and walking only one on the night. Juarez, who also leads the Racers in batting average with .389, had a single and a stolen base in the game.

The Racer's kept the game close taking the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Samantha Ricketts ripped a ball down the first baseline, scoring Treena Peel. In the following inning, Lisa Mogdlin, the Racers' center fielder, led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run to put the Racers up 2-1. The home run was her second of the series.

The Bandits' ferociously answered back in the bottom of the sixth when first baseman, Samantha Findlay bashed a ball into centerfield past diving shortstop Jessica Valis. Nicole Pauly, who was pinch running for Rachel Folden rounded third to easily score the tying run and sending the game into extra innings.

The game didn't stay tied for long as Racers' first baseman, Samantha Ricketts blasted a solo home run to deep right field in the top of the eighth, leaving the Racers up 3-2 when Folden stepped to the plate.

The drive to center was her fourth of the year and ended the game just as it started--with a home run.

The Bandits will face off against the Racers in the final game of the series Tuesday, June 22 at 1:05 p.m. at Judson University.
