NATIONAL PRO FASTPITCH TO RETURN TO THE DELL DIAMOND WITH ST. DAVID’S HEALTHCARE SERIES
AKRON RACERS AND NPF DIAMONDS SET TO FACE-OFF IN ROUND ROCK

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Building on the success of last year’s National Pro Fastpitch Series between the Chicago Bandits and USSSA Florida Pride, NPF and Ryan Sanders Baseball officials announced today that The Dell Diamond will once again host a regular season series, presented by St. David’s Healthcare, that will take place July 22-23 between the Akron Racers and NPF Diamonds.

The teams will play four games in the two-day period with a doubleheader at 6 p.m., Friday, July 22, and a doubleheader at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 23.

Tickets will go on sale April 22, with infield seating priced at $10 and outfield seating priced at $5.

The Racers have the reigning NPF Pitcher of the Year in Lisa Norris, as well as league veteran Kristina Thorson who they acquired via trade in the off-season.

The Diamonds return Megan Gibson, a Texas A&M alumni who is arguably one of the league's best all-around players, as well as former University of Texas shortstop Loryn Johnson. The Diamonds will be a young, exciting team that will be on the road the entire summer showcasing NPF action in various venues throughout the country.

New this year is a partnership with the 2011 South PONY Fastpitch Nationals, a youth softball national championship being held the same weekend. Over 150 teams and 6,000 supporters will converge just one mile north of The Dell Diamond at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

“Last year’s NPF series was a huge success,” Ryan Sanders CFO Reese Ryan said. “With the experience from that event and the new partnership with the Pony Nationals, we don’t see any reason why this year won’t be bigger.”

Last year the four-day, five-game series in Round Rock drew over 13,000 fans, including a single-game, regular season NPF record with 5,292 fans for the Saturday double-header.

"Going into a known, successful baseball venue in Round Rock in 2010 and being able to draw a crowd and entertain them for four days says a lot about the possibilities of women's professional fastpitch,” NPF Commissioner Cheri Kempf said.  “The Dell Diamond and the Express are first class from the front office to the game day staff to the facilities and we are thrilled to be teaming up again this year to deliver the highest level of fastpitch softball to Texas!"

The South PONY Fastpitch Nationals Tournament is a four day, 150 team tournament that begins July 20  and runs through July 23.  The tournament is divided into recreational and platinum divisions from ages 5 to 18. Teams participating in the south zone tournament come from nine different states.

“RRSGSL is excited the NPF will be playing during PONY Nationals and we look forward to the young athletes experiencing softball at the highest level,” Sertoma Girls Softball President Michael Franks said.
