NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Pitcher Danielle Spaulding has been traded to the NPF Diamonds from the USSSA Pride, effective July 15. The Pride received the Diamonds’ first-round draft pick for 2012 in exchange for Spaulding.
The rookie joins the Diamonds after making four appearances for USSSA. Spaulding was 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA during her stint with the Pride. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., earned her first professional victory against the Diamonds on July 9. She allowed four earned runs on five hits in the complete-game performance. In her first outing for the Diamonds on July 16 against her former team, Spaulding took the loss after giving up six earned runs through four innings of work.
A 2010 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Spaulding was a three-time NFCA All-American for the Tar Heels. She was named the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Pitcher of the Year after recording a school-record 344 strikeouts. The 5-7 lefty was 21-7 with a 1.21 ERA during her senior campaign and finished the season with six no-hitters.
