AKRON, OH – July 12, 2013
– The Akron Racers started a new streak tonight. After dropping seven in a row, the Racers have strung together back-to-back victories over the NY/NJ Comets. The Racers beat the Comets, 11-0.  Akron started the game with a very strong first inning; the team scored four runs on four hits and batted through the order.  Racers pitcher, Ivy Renfroe, had an excellent game and threw a three-hit complete game shutout.
Renfroe went over the century mark, throwing 111 pitches, while walking three and striking out seven in seven innings.
Racers rookie, Brigette Del Ponte who fillied in for Kelly Montalvo at third base, manned the hot corner like a seasoned pro.  In the fourth inning, she snagged a bouncing grounder in short stop territory and made the throw to first to get the second out of the inning.  On the very next ball, Del Ponte displayed her arm strength when she caught the ball but dropped it. However, she fired a rocket to first to just beat Angeline Quiocho by a step to end the inning.  In the, fifth inning, she had a spectacular leaping catch to get the second out of the innning and prevent the runners from advancing.
The entire team showed great ability on defense, boasting an errorless game.  The game was highlighted by spectacular catches from Tess Sito and Del Ponte.  Sito made a diving catch in the fifth to make Amanda Kamekona the final out of the inning and help Renfroe get out of a tough situation with the bases loaded.
But it was the Racers’ offense which shined brightest tonight.  Akron scored in all kinds of ways tonight; they used both the small ball and the long ball to get their 11 runs.  The first inning was all small ball as the team managed to start the innning off with back-to-back doubles from Turang and Schlopy. Morgan brought Turang home on a double.  Castillo and Marder followed with back-to-back walks to get the bases loaded with Schlopy scoring on Marder’s walk.  Then, Sito slapped one by Kelsi Weseman at third to  score Castillo and keep the bases loaded.  Del Ponte sac-flied to center field and Sam Marder scored. The Racers managed to bat through the order in the first and were very efficient, getting four runs on four hits.
In the third inning, Sam Marder earned another walk, but Jessica Garcia came in for her to pinch run. Brianna Hesson followed the walk with a single and Garcia made it to third. Tess Sito was able to bring her home by reaching first on an error.
The Racers had another big inning in the fourth, scoring four runs and bringing eight hitters to the plate.  Turang led the inning off with a single by outrunning Comets pitcher, Angel Bunner to first.  Charlotte Morgan brought her home on a single after Turang stole second.  Lindsey Richardson came into replace Bunner immediately after Bunner walked Kaylyn Castillo.  Sam Marder used the long ball to give the Racers a 9-0 lead with a three run homer to left field on a full count.
In the fifth inning, Aja Paculba started the inning with a walk and then advanced to second on a single from Turang.  She reached third after Dara Toman walked on four pitches and Kaylyn Castillo reached on balls as the next hitter. Brigette Del Ponte scored run number 11 in the sixth innning on a one-run homer.
NY/NJ Comets started Angel Bunner in the circle.  She went 3.1 innings and gave up eight runs on seven hits.  She walked five and struck out just one.  Lindsey Richardson replaced her in the fourth inning and finished the day by giving up three runs on three hits, walked four, and struck out four over 2.2 innings of work.
