ROSEMONT, Ill. – July 24, 2013
 – Monica Abbott delivered another dominating performance tonight, guiding the Bandits to an 11-1 victory while tossing twelve strikeouts and improving her record to 11-1. Comets starting pitcher Angel Bunner fell to 1-7.
The Bandits started the four-game home stand strong, scoring three runs in the first inning. Amber Patton got on base with a single and was brought home by Alisa Goler’s third homerun of the season.
Tammy Williams followed the homerun reaching on a fielder’s choice. Williams was then able to score off of Brittany Cervantes’ RBI double, pushing the Bandits lead to 3-0 going into the second inning.
The Bandits extended their lead by a run in the second after Megan Wiggins got on base with a leadoff double and was brought home by Patton’s RBI single, making the score 4-0 after two innings of play.
The Comets threatened during the top of the third when Brittney Lindley doubled and stole third off a wild pitch. However, Abbott handily struck out two batters to end the inning and keep the Comets scoreless.
The Bandits offense struck again in the bottom of the fourth after Vicky Galindo was hit by pitch and Wiggins’ single up the middle put a pair on. Patton reached on an error to load the bases for Goler who delivered a long sac fly to center field allowing Galindo to score and extending the Bandits lead to 5-0.
In the bottom of the sixth the Bandits exploded for six more runs. Galindo started things off with a single up the middle. Wiggins followed up with a double, advancing Galindo to third. Patton then scored Galindo with a well-placed bunt single.
Goler stepped up to bat next and hit another sac fly allowing Wiggins to tag up and score. The Comets then made a pitching change substituting in Taryne Mowatt for starting pitcher Bunner. Nerissa Myers and Danielle Zymkowtiz were both walked to load the bases for Eri Yamada who delivered a sacrifice fly to score Patton.
Pinch hitter Maggie Hull then hit a single up the middle allowing Myers to score and Jenna Grim followed suit, hitting a two-run RBI double off the centerfield fence. The Bandits took a commanding 11-0 lead going into the seventh inning.
Nikki Nemitz came in for Abbott in the seventh to close out the game. The Comets were able to get one run in the bottom of the seventh when Dorian Shaw was able to score off an error, making the final score 11-1.
The Bandits and Comets return to the Ballpark at Rosemont for game two of the series tomorrow. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
