ROSEMONT – May 31, 2014 - Emily Allard wasted no time making her presence known, as she singled to open the bottom of the sixth inning and came in to score on Tammy Williams’ second homerun of the season to give the Bandits a 5-3 victory at The Ballpark at Rosemont in front of near-capacity crowd of 1,308.
The win was the second of the season for the Bandits (2-1) as they defeated the Racers by a score of 12-8 on Friday night Akron.
Akron (1-2) was first to get on the board when Jenny Gilbert scored from second base on a throwing error by Brittany Cervantes in the top of the second inning.  Cervantes was able to knock down the hot shot by Jessica Garcia, but her throw sailed wide of first allowing the run to come in to score.
The Bandits drew even in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kristen Butler connected on her first home run of the season.
The Racers wasted little time to get back on the board and take the lead.  Ashley Thomas led off the top of the fifth inning with a homerun to centerfield.  The next hitter, Taylor Schlopy, walked to end the night of Bandits starting pitcher Estela Piñon.  Schlopy would eventually come in to score on a sacrifice fly by Haley Outon.
Piñon, the fourth overall pick of the 2014 NPF Draft by the Bandits, tossed four innings and allowed just three hits in her first professional start.  She also struck out three and walked three.
Down 3-1 in the bottom half of the fifth inning, the Bandits battled back to tie the game with RBI singles from Cervantes and Alisa Goler. Chicago missed an opportunity to add to the lead as they left runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the inning.
Chicago’s first lead of the game came in the bottom of the sixth on Williams’ two-run homerun.
Williams’ homerun ended the night for Akron starting pitcher Rachele Fico.  Fico, who is now 1-1 on the season, threw 5.1 innings and allowed all five runs in the game.
Ellen Renfroe picked up her first career win in the NPF after she came in to relieve Piñon.  Renfroe threw the final three innings of the game and didn’t surrender a hit.  She walked one and struck out one to record the win.
The final game of the four-game series with Akron is scheduled for Sunday with first pitch at 3:05 p.m. at The Ballpark at Rosemont.
* Amber Patton has yet to make an appearance this season as she continues to nurse an injury to a lower extremity.
