The PA Rebellion Rally to 6-3 Win Over USSSA Pride

By:

Hanover, MD – June 2, 2014 - The Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by the Coury Financial Group, turned to a pair of late home runs by National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) veterans Courtney Liddle and Angeline Quiocho to defeat the USSSA Pride 6-3 Monday at Joe Cannon Stadium in Hanover, MD.

Liddle and Quiocho, who both played on the New York/New Jersey Comets squad in 2013, each combined for a solo homer and a go-ahead two-run blast in the sixth to mark the team’s second win in franchise history.

Rebellion starter Angelique Bunner walked away with a no decision, allowing three runs off six hits during her campaign. Teammate Sarah Pauly earned the win as she made her second appearance of the year.  Pauly struck out two batters and gave up three hits in her two scoreless innings of relief.

Pennsylvania wasted no time getting on the board.  Third baseman Jenn Salling singled to start the game and was quickly driven in off shortstop Bianca Mejia’s triple the next at bat.  Later, BB Bates earned the first hit of her professional career when she singled to advance Mejia home, making the score 2-0.

However, the Pride fought back off a two-run homer from Kristyn Sandberg, knotting the game at two after one inning of play.
Neither team struck again until the fifth inning when USSSA’s Madison Shipman sliced an RBI single to give the Pride a 3-2 lead.

The Rebellion utilized their powerful offense however to score three in the sixth inning.  First baseman Courtney Liddle led off the inning by belting her first homerun the season to tie the game 3-3.  After Lauren Lappin reached first base on a dropped third strike, outfielder Angeline Quiocho mimicked Liddle and sent a two-run long ball over the fence for a 5-3 advantage.

Pennsylvania was able to secure an insurance run their last at bat.  With one out, Liddle hit a sacrifice fly to score Brittney Lindley furthering the margin 6-3.
