Akron, OH – June 6, 2014 - Akron Racers General Manager Joey Arrietta announced today that the Racers have signed pitcher Lisa Norris to a contract for the 2014 season. Norris was signed by the Racers as a free agent in 2009, after completing her softball career at the University of North Carolina.
In her first professional start as a Racer, Norris pitched a perfect game. Later that summer she was selected to the All-NPF team and then again in 2010 after earning Pitcher of the Year honors. Norris ranked second in the NPF in strikeouts in 2010, with 126, and was in the Top 5 in strikeouts in 2012, with 87 Ks.
Norris was off to her best career performance last summer since 2010 before falling to an injury early in the season. She fought back to take the ball in the Championship Series but the injury once again forced her to the sideline. She, however, posted a 4-4 record in just 56.1 innings pitched. Her 1.74 ERA ranked fourth among NPF pitchers in 2013.
She is currently an assistant coach for the Louisiana Lafayette Rajin’ Cajuns, who advanced to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City. Norris has previously coached at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, North Carolina State, and Georgia Tech.
Norris and the Racers will face off against the Chicago Bandits in Akron on Monday, June 9 at 7:05 pm. For more information about the Akron Racers visit www.akronracers.org or call (330) 376-8188
