Racers Take Early Lead, Can’t Hang On in 3-2 Loss to PA Rebellion

Akron, OH – June 29, 2014 - The Akron Racers came out strong, and took a 2-0 lead on the PA Rebellion, but couldn’t hang on in the 3-2 loss.
The Racers took the lead in the third inning, off a double by Jill Barrett to drive in Ashley Thomas. Barrett then came around to score on the RBI single by Charlotte Morgan. 

The Rebellion got on the board in the fourth on a SAC fly from Jenn Salling that drove in Angeline Quiocho to cut the Racers lead in half. The Racers held the 2-1 lead until the sixth inning, when Sarah Prezioso put the Rebellion ahead with a two run home run. 

Angel Bunner got the win for the Rebellion. She allowed 2 runs on six hits and two walks, striking out five in her 6 innings of work. Tatum Edwards got the save for the Rebellion.
 
Racers starter Alison Owen pitched four innings and allowed 1 run on 3 hits and a walk, striking out two. She recorded a no decision, as reliever Lannah Campbell surrendered the Prezioso home run to receive the loss. Campbell threw three innings from the circle, walking three and striking out none, while allowing two Rebellion runs.

The Akron Racers, headquartered in Akron, OH, are the oldest existing team in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league. The Racers competed in the Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL) for two seasons in 1999 and 2000 and in the NPF since 2004. Historic Firestone Stadium is home to the Racers and numerous amateur events at all levels of play. The Racers kick-off their 13th season of play in 2014.
 
The Rebellion is a professional women's softball team competing as part of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF). Joining the gritty, fast-paced league in 2014, the Rebellion will play head-to-head against the most talented players in the sport. Games are broadcast nationally and draw local fans of all ages to experience the action live. NPF is an Official Development Partner of Major League Baseball.
 
National Pro Fastpitch is headquarted in Nashville, TN. The league, created to give elite female fastpitch players the opportunity to pursue a professional career in their chosen sport has operated since 1997 under the name of Women's Pro Fastpitch (WPF) and Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL).
