Akron, OH- July 1, 2014 -Racers ace Rachele Fico was once again dominant from the circle, throwing a complete game, and allowing only 2 runs on 6 hits, walking one and striking out 6. Fico moves to 6-3 on the season.
The Racers scored two runs in the second inning, on singles from Jessica Garcia, Ashley Thomas, Ayumi Karino and Nerissa Myers. Myers’ single drove in Garcia and Thomas to give the Racers the early lead. The Racers would hold the lead for the rest of the game.
A pair of singles in the top of the third, from Angeline Quiocho and Briana Hamilton cut the Racers lead in half, but the Racers responded with the three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Brianna Cherry doubled and scored on a wild pitch from the Rebellion starter Tatum Edwards. After Taylor Schlopy walked and Garcia doubled to center field, Karino plated both runs with a line drive single to center.
The only other run of the game came in the top of the seventh when Quiocho hit a solo home run to left field.
The Racers move to 10-10 on the season and win the series against the Rebellion with the victory tonight. The Racers travel to Chicago for a four game series against the Bandits, starting at 8:05 pm ET on Thursday, July 3. They return to Akron on July 11 to face the defending Cowles Cup Champions, the USSSA Pride.
