Bandits Sweep Team Venezuela

Game Box Score

Lisle, Ill. – It’s a sweep! The Comcast Chicago Bandits won the final contest of a four-game series with the Venezuelan National Team today by a score of 8-2. The 2006 season began Thursday, June 1 as the Chicago club captured its first victory of the year. The Bandits added two more tallies to the win category on Friday (June 2) and Saturday (June 3). They now boast a 7-1 series record over the international squad after scoring a total of 24 runs of 31 hits and two homeruns this weekend.

Jaime Clark notched her second round-tripper this afternoon with a dead center homerun in the bottom of the third inning while batting .500 (1-for2). Adding to the Bandit offensive attack were Nicole Trimboli added a triple of her own while the club tallied a total of six hits, six RBI and five stolen bases on the day.

In the circle, Amy Harre went the distance and extended her record to 2-0 after giving up only four hits and striking out six in 29 batter faced. Harre notched her first victory of the season on Friday, June 2 in the Bandits’ 6-3 win over the Venezuela team. In similar fashion to last night’s (June 3) contest, Laura Harms led the way defensively tallying three assists at shortstop.

In what appeared to be déjà vu, Venezuela jumped on the board first after a Bandit error allowed Perez to score in the top of the first inning. Last night the international squad crossed the plate first in almost the exact same manner.

The Bandits answered back right away with a Jaime Clark RBI. Vicky Galindo started the inning off with a walk and a stolen base. She then advanced to third after Trena Peel grounded out to first base. With Galindo at third and one out, Clark stepped up to the plate and knocked a towering sacrifice fly to left field, deep enough in the outfield to allow Galindo to score after Riera recorded the catch. Southpaw Nicole Trimboli immediately added a triple to right field and scored on a Mackenzie Vandergeest single to right. After stealing the second base of the inning, Vandergeest stood on second as Gina Oaks hit an infield single which advanced Vandergeest to third. On a double-steal, Oaks slid safely into second base while Vandergeest scored on a error by catcher...Geraldine.

In the bottom of the third, the Chicago club came knocking once again, beginning with Trena Peel giving herself up and reaching first base after being hit by a pitch. As Clark stepped into the box for her second at-bat of the day, Peel took off for second base and earned her first stolen base of the day. Now with a runner in scoring position, Clark blasted a shot to deep center field for her second homerun of the season. The former University of Washington Huskie single-handedly boasts the team’s homerun total at two on the season thus far.

After two scoreless inning in the fourth and fifth, Selena Collins got the Bandit offensive juices flowing again with a single to left field in the top of the sixth. Anne Steffan bunted Collins over to second and reached first base safely. Amanda Williams loaded the bases after reaching first on an error. With her teammates looking on, Peel took her free ticket to first after watching four balls go by which allowed Collins to score. Clark earned the second hit-by-pitch mark of the day and trotted down to first as Steffan crossed home plate for the final run of the day.

The Bandits improve to 4-0 and 7-1 versus the Venezuelan National Team. They head out to New England for their first road trip of the season this Thursday, June 8 to take on the Riptide. Games on Thursday-Saturday (June 8-10) will begin at 7:05 p.m. ET while Sunday’s (June 11) match is scheduled to start at 3:05 p.m. ET.
