ROSEMONT, Ill.
– March 18, 2014 - Chicago Bandits GM, Aaron M. Moore, has announced the re-signing of ace pitcher Monica Abbott for the upcoming 2014 season. This will be Abbott’s fourth season in a Bandits uniform.

“Pitching wins championships, and we’re very happy and honored to have one of the best in Monica back in a Bandits uniform again for the 2014 season,” stated Moore.

“Monica is a workhorse and is a pitcher that seems to get better as the season goes on and she definitely wants to be a leader, both in the clubhouse and on the field.  We’re looking for big things from her this season and we know she ‘Lives to Bring It’.”

The former Tennessee Lady Vol signed with the Bandits in February of 2011 after stints with the Washington Glory, USSSA Pride and Tennessee Diamonds.

“I’m happy to have reached terms with an organization that has supported me in my athletic career, even being a part of my 2013 Tennessee jersey retirement,” said Abbott.

The University of Tennessee retired her number 7, which she sported for the Vols from 2004-2007 in March of 2013.

During her time with Tennessee she posted a 189-34 record with a 0.79 ERA including 1112 shutouts, 2,440 strikeouts, 23 no-hitters and six perfect games while earning SEC Pitcher of the Year honors in 2004, 2005 and 2007.

“It really shows that the Bandits believe in the success of their players and the organization.”

Throughout her time in NPF, she has pitched her way to multiple honors, including 2011 Co-Pitcher of the Year, while helping the organization to their second Cowles Cup Championship. Her domination continued in 2012, finishing with a league-high 14 wins and 190 strikeouts during the regular season and took home her second consecutive Pitcher of the Year honor.

This past season, Abbott finished with a record of 17-4, leading the league with an ERA of 0.93 while striking out 189 batters and allowing just 17 earned runs in 128.2 innings pitched.

At the Bandits end of the season banquet, she was named Pitcher of the Year, an award that was voted on solely by the fans.
“I’m proud to be back with my Bandit family for the 2014 season and to compete for a Bandits championship.”
