Glory Battle Past Force

Glory battle past Force

Allentown, Pa- A five-run fourth inning and a one-hitter by Washington Glory pitcher Desiree Serrano gave the Glory plenty of momentum to beat the Philadelphia Force 7-0 and put the team two games ahead in NPF standings.

The Glory (25-14) got on the board first in the top of the third inning.  With two outs, Amber Jackson walked to put a lone runner on first base.  Sara Larquier followed with a blast over the left field fence, putting runs on the board and giving the Glory a 2-0 lead.

The Glory offense continued to attack the Force pitching in the top of the fourth as they tacked on five more runs, giving the Glory a comfortable 7-0 lead.  Courtney Bures started the inning with a free pass to first base when she was hit by a pitch.  Callie Piper advanced Bures to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Another free base was given to Jessica Moore as starting pitcher, Margo Pruis, put her on first with a walk.  LaDonia Hughes loaded the bases with a single to right field.  In attempt to stop the threat, Megan Gibson entered the game to relieve Pruis, but the change did not affect the Glory’s strong hitting performance.  Nicole Barber hit a two-RBI  single that would score Moore and Bures and advance Hughes to second base.  With runners on first and second, Oli Keohohou walked to load the bases for Jackson.  Jackson put two more runs on the board for the Glory with a single up the middle that would score Barber and Hughes and advance Cambria Miranda, who had entered the game to run for Keohohou, to third.  The Glory would add one more run when Miranda scored on a passed ball.

Serrano (10-5) pitched a complete game, giving up only one hit and striking out three.

Barber and Larquier led the offense for the Glory.  Each batter had two hits, two RBIs, and one run scored.

Savannah Long had the only Force hit.  Pruis (3-4) took the loss for the Force (23-16).  The starter gave up four hits and five runs in 3.1 innings pitched. Stacy Birk pitched the final three innings of scoreless softball for the Force.

The Force and the Glory will return to ECTB Stadium on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. to play for the final time this series.  The Force will continue to hold the “Racing to Read” series; fans who attend the game will have the chance to win a free ticket voucher. Those who can correctly guess the type of bug in the Bug in the Jug will be entered into the raffle.  Michelle Tatlock will be the player passion as she shows her passion for reading and library programs.
