Davison walk-off lifts Thunder to 5-4 win
Rockford heads to Akron next

ROSCOE, Ill. – Rockford led the entire game until back-to-back homeruns by Crystl Bustos and Lisa Modglin in the top of the seventh tied the game at 4-4. Jamie Davison didn’t keep it tied for long as she blasted a walk-off home run deep to left field to propel the Thunder to a 5-4 win.

The Thunder (3-2) wasted little time to get on the board as they pushed two runs across the plate in the bottom of the first inning on a Chelsea Spencer single. Rockford would score two runs again in the bottom of the third inning on singles by Shanna Diller and Amanda Williams.

Five Thunder players accounted for the team’s seven hits on the day. Diller and Davison each finished the day 2-for-3 to lead the offense.

Rockford stole four more bases today raising the team total 15 through the first five games. Jenna Rhodes stole a base in the first inning to give her a league-best seven on the season.

Allison Kime got the start in the circle for Rockford and went 6 2/3 innings and was responsible for all four Akron runs. She left the game in the seventh in favor of Cassidy Scoggins who retired Kasey Reis on one pitch to record her first win of the season.

Akron (2-3) was led offensively by Modglin and Bustos, who each hit home runs in the game. Modglin finished the game 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored. Kenora Posey also finished the game 2-for-3 for the Racers.

The Thunder will be off for two days before heading to Akron to take on the Racers for another five-game series. All five games of the series begin at 6:05 p.m. CDT and they will be streamed live on the internet. Allison Kime will most likely return to the circle for the Thunder to open the series on Wednesday night.

Rockford will return home to Roscoe Thunder Park on Wednesday, June 16 to take on the USSSA Pride for a five-game series. Olympic pitchers Cat Osterman and Monica Abbott will most likely open the series on Wednesday night for opener. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the first 300 fans will receive a “Perfect Storm” poster.
