Pride takes series finale from Thunder 2-0

By:

June 21, 2009 - ROSCOE, Ill. – The Thunder couldn’t find the answer to Sarah Pauly in Sunday’s series finale with the Pride, as USSSA knocked off Rockford by a final score of 2-0.

In front of a Father’s Day crowd of more than 700, the Pride scored the only run it would need in the top of the fourth inning. Kelly Kretschman opened the inning with a single to left field and should eventually come in to score on Amber Jackson’s second hit of the game.

USSSA (3-7) added an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning when Oli Keohohou connected for a long home run to left field.

The solo run in the fourth was all Pauly would need in the game. The NPF veteran tossed a complete game and allowed just four hits in the game. The Thunder’s (9-6) biggest threats came in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, but they would strand runners in scoring positions both times.

Allison Kime (2-2) suffered the loss in the game. She threw all seven innings allowed five hits and struck out just two in the game after striking out nine Pride hitters in the series opener on Wednesday. Only one of the runs Kime surrendered was scored as earned.

Jackson led both teams offensively with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, including the game-winning RBI in the fourth. Four different Thunder hitters recorded hits in the game.

Rockford will be off for the next 15 days before the Chicago Bandits visit Thunder Park at Roscoe. Game one of the series is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7 and it will be Kids Day at the Park.

The Thunder will hold its next appearance on Friday, June 26 at RBIs Bar and Grill in Rockford. The appearance will also be a season ticket holder appreciation night.
