ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Knowing they had to win their last five games to secure the final spot in this year’s NPF Championship Series the Force hosted the USSSA Pride Wednesday evening at ECTB Stadium. Unfortunately a late rally was not enough as the Pride downed the Force 4-3 in front of 454 fans, to end Philly’s postseason dreams.

With Wednesday’s tough loss the Force fell to 9-26 on the year, while the Pride secured the fourth place spot in the tournament and improved their record to 14-22.

Proving to be the deciding factor for the Pride were two two-run innings. Leading her team to victory in the fifth was Kelly Kretschman who hit a two-run home run. The homer was the eighth of the year for the designated player. Producing in the first inning for the Pride were Amber Jackson and Courtney Bures who each hit an RBI single to start of Wednesday’s game.

For the Force, they were kept scoreless until the bottom half of the third, when Emily Friedman crushed her second homerun of the season to make it 2-1. After the two run top of the fifth, the Force responded back in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs of their own. Both runs were unearned on a throwing error by the right fielder. Getting the initial hit to start the two run rally was Jami Lobpries.

In the circle the fans were treated to another stellar pitching duel. This time it was the Force’s Megan Gibson going up against the Pride’s Sarah Pauly. The two went back and forth all night, and threw well over 350 pitches combined. On the night Pauly fanned a total of seven batters, while also surrendering three runs on four hits, and had three walks. Gibson totaled three strikeouts on the night, and allowed four runs on seven hits with three walks.

Even though the Force is out of the postseason, they will return to ECTB Stadium tomorrow evening looking for some payback. Game two of the five game series between the Force and Pride is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. EST. As always the game can be viewed online by going to http://www.philadelphiaforce.com/live.
