ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Veteran outfielder Trena Peel had quite the afternoon as the Force closed out their 2009 campaign Sunday afternoon at ECTB Stadium in front of 538 loyal fans and spectators. Peel, who was recognized before the start of Sunday’s game along with a special group of veteran members, went 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI’s. Unfortunately, the Pride took the game and the series with a 5-4 victory.

Sunday’s loss ended the Force’s season at 11-28. The Pride who will face first place Chicago in the NPF Championship series improved their record to 16-24.

Also helping out Peel on the offense was Lillian Hammond, Clare Burnum, Audrey LaFountain, and Emily Friedman. Hammond joined Peel with a two hits, while Burnum, LaFountain, and Friedman each recorded one hit a-piece. Defensively, the afternoon belonged to centerfielder Jami Lobpries who robbed what would have been huge Pride hits.

Pacing the visiting Pride’s offense was US Olympian Caitlin Lowe. The standout centerfielder also had quite the defensive showing Sunday afternoon, and also went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. LaDonia Hughes also produced at the plate for the Pride totaling two hits in her four appearances with one RBI.

A total of four pitchers appeared in the circle for the Force. Earning the start was Samantha Yodowitz who went the first three innings. Yodowitz was charged with three runs on four hits, and walked three batters and fanned another. Megan Gibson stepped in the fourth for a brief one inning of relief. In the fifth Stacy Birk toed the rubber for Philly and surrendered two runs on five hits in her two inning appearance. To close out the afternoon Margo Pruis was dominant in the seventh striking out two batters while only giving up one hit.

For the Pride Sunday’s victory belonged to Kia Fennell (1-1). Fennell went all seven innings and was charged with four runs on seven hits. She also managed three strikeouts and three walks.

Sunday’s game got off to a rough start for the Force, as the Pride took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. They then put up two more runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. However the Force were not out of the game even a little bit scoring a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Down by just one run the Force took their first lead of the night in the fifth with another two runs. Unfortunately, their hard fought lead was short-lived, as USSSA battled right back with a two run top of the sixth. The score would remain 5-4 as the Pride secured the series victory.

Despite the loss, the Philadelphia Force truly has high hopes for the 2010 season. Fans still have the opportunity to purchase season tickets for next season. For more information on next year and season tickets visit
