NASHVILLE, Tennessee ( June 9, 2010) – The Tennessee Diamonds opened their today to an excited crowd against the Akron Racers. Five homeruns were hit between both teams today, including Chelsea Spencer’s homerun, the first in history of the Diamonds organization. The Racers were without their star player, Crystl Bustos, but they were still able to produce offensively and come away with the win.

The Diamonds jumped out to the early 1-0 lead playing a little small ball and capitalizing off of an error from left-fielder, Sharonda McDonald. The Racers tied the game in the top of the second with a homerun by catcher, Mackenzie Vandergeest. The Racers tried to put the game away in the third scoring four runs off of three errors and four hits. Chelsea Spencer answered back hitting a two run homerun in the bottom half of the third to bring the Diamonds within three. Megan Gibson was able to hold off the Racers the next couple of innings as they were only able to push one more run across. Rookie, Carly Wynn was impressive from the plate in the lead-off spot going 1 for 1 from the plate with a three run homerun in the fourth to put the Diamonds right back in the game. The next couple of innings would be a defensive battle. In the last inning the Diamonds battled to force the game to extra innings. A heads up play by Akron Racer first baseman, Micaela Minner, was able to get pitch runner, Shanel Scott, heading to third base. The Racers were able to defeat the Diamonds 7-6.
