Akron Takes Second Double Header

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Akron Racers swept the double header with the NPF Diamonds Saturday night at The Dell Diamond. The Racers took game one 5-2, and game two 5-3.

In game one, Loryn Johnson got the Diamonds on the board first with a two-run home run in the second inning. Rhiannon Kliesing scored on the home run after walking to start the inning.

The Racers got within one run when Megan Bush walked, moved to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on Nicole Trimboli’s groundout and then scored on Roya St. Clair’s RBI-groundout.

The Racers tied the game in the seventh inning on St. Clair’s RBI single, her second RBI of the game.

In extra innings, The Racers scored three runs in the ninth inning to take a 5-2 lead which proved to be insurmountable. Trimboli, St. Clair and Courtney Bures each had an RBI in the inning.

In game two, the Diamonds got on the board in the first inning on Kliesing’s two-RBI double. The Racers answered with two of their own in the fourth inning on Nicole Pauly’s two-run home run.

The Racer’s added three more in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Taylor Schlopy and Samantha Marder each had RBI hits.

In the bottom of the seventh Kliesing led off the inning with a solo home run to bring the Diamonds to within two, but that would prove to be all of the scoring the Diamonds would do, losing game two 5-3. Kliesing provided all three RBI for the Diamonds.
