LITTLE FALLS, NJ – NY/NJ Juggernaut catcher Germaine Fairchild had two RBI singles, designated player Lisa Iancin had two doubles, and pitcher Gina Oaks had 11 strikeouts in a 4-0 Juggernaut victory over the Arizona Heat in the second of a three game series. Iancin went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run scored while Fairchild went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Oaks pitched a complete game, giving up no runs on four hits, one walk, and 11 strikeouts. Oaks is currently second in the NPF with a 0.91 ERA behind her teammate Amanda Scott (0.55).

Right fielder Laura Harms began the scoring for the Nauts in the third inning when she beat out a bunt for a base hit with no outs and then scored on a throwing error by Heat third baseman Tamara Ivie. Iancin then continued the offense in the fourth inning by leading off with a double to left field off of Arizona starter Wendy Allen. After a successful sacrifice bunt by centerfielder Venus Taylor, pinch runner Carri Leto scored on Fairchild’s basehit to center to give the NY/NJ a 2-0 lead. Allen gave up one earned run on five hits, and no walks in four complete innings pitched.

The Juggernaut’s stretched their lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning when Fairchild singled in first baseman Erika Hanson who led the inning off with a single through the left side. Iancin’s one-out double to right center off of relief pitcher Monica Triner, her second of the night, would bring home Harms for the final run of the game. Harms’ basehit in the third was the first hit of her professional career and she went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for the Nauts. Triner gave up two earned runs on four hits, no walks, and two strikeouts in two innings pitched.

The Heat’s best chance to score against Oaks came in the fifth inning. Arizona had the bases loaded with one out after a lead off single by third baseman Tamara Ivie, a close play at second where second baseman Sara Pickering slid safe under the tag of shortstop Lyndsey Klein, and a single to center by right fielder Jodi Otten. However, Leto threw Pickering out at home on a groundball by centerfielder Cheryl Bolding, and Oaks struck out catcher Leah Braatz to end the threat and the inning.

The Juggernaut will take on the Heat again tomorrow night at 7:35 pm for the conclusion of the three game series. The game will be the third of four games to be aired live on the YES Network.
