Bandits & Strikers Team Up To Strike Out ALS

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Bandits faced the Chicago North Men’s Baseball League Strikers in a charity game to raise money and awareness for the ALS Les Turner Foundation.

Throughout the night various fundraisers and raffles were held to help raise money for the Les Turner Foundation.

Chanda Bell started in the circle for the Bandits, recording three strikeouts in the first inning, but the Strikers were still able to get on the board.  George Jimenez started off the hitting for the Strikers with a single.  Later in the inning, Jimenez was batted in by Papo Figueroa to give the Strikers an early 1-0 lead.

Vangie Galindo led off the bottom of the first with a single and was able to advance to second.  A Strikers error allowed Galindo to advance home to tie the game.  Amber Patton followed up with a bunt single and stole second.  Brittany Cervantes was next up to bat and hit a sacrifice fly deep to center field to advance Patton to third base.

The Bandits offense continued as Adrienne Monka then hit a triple to right field to score Patton for the 2-1 Bandits lead.  A wild pitch brought Monka home for the 3-1 lead and Jenna Grim followed with a single up the middle.  The 3-1 lead would hold up through the first inning as the explosive inning came to an end.

Bell started off the second inning with two consecutive strikeouts, bringing her total to five before Bob Rosenburg tried to spark the Strikers offense with a triple to the right field wall, but was left on base as the Bandits ended the inning.

Danielle Zymkowitz advanced to first on a bunt single in the bottom of the inning before stealing second.  Zymkowitz then advanced to third as Vangie Galindo grounded out but, Zymkowitz was unable to score for the Bandits.

The Bandits replaced Bell with Michelle Moses for the third inning and Moses was able to keep the Strikers off the scoreboard, preserving the 3-1 lead.

Cervantes led off for the Bandits with another deep shot, this time hitting a double to the left field wall.  Monka then grounded out and Grim flew out to left field.  Moses was walked to put runners on first and second, but Whitney Larson grounded out to first as Paul Ganvik made a nice grab down the line to end the inning.

The fourth and fifth innings were quiet as both teams struggled to find offense, allowing the Bandits to continue holding the 3-1 lead.

Zymkowitz heated things up in the bottom of the sixth with a triple to the right field wall.  Vangie Galindo followed up with a bunt single before stealing second.  Alisa Goler was next to the plate and hit a two RBI double to grow the lead to 5-1.  Grim later hit a double to bring home Goler for a 6-1 lead at the end of the sixth inning.

The Bandits were able to hold onto the 6-1 lead in the top of the seventh which would have won the game, but more importantly, the two teams helped raise money and awareness for the ALS Les Turner Foundation, and to entertain the fans, the two teams decided to finish off the game by playing the bottom of the seventh.

With the extra half inning, the Bandits extended the win to a 7-1 victory over the Strikers after a pitch got away, allowing Amanda Williams to advance home.
