Findlay Ends Retirement and Returns to NPF with Racers

Akron, OH – Pres/GM, Joey Arrietta announced today that the Akron Racers have signed hard-hitting DH/1B, Samantha Findlay to a free agent contract for the 2013 season.  Findlay ends a brief entry into retirement to suit up for the Racers this coming summer.

“While completing my Master’s at DePaul University, I realized how much I missed the game that has given me endless opportunities,” commented Findlay. “I am grateful that Joey and the Akron Racers have reached out to me with open arms by allowing me the chance to become a part of their team for the 2013 NPF season. Most importantly, I plan to perform at the highest level I am capable of playing while getting yet another chance to compete, with, and against the best athletes in the game. Finally, I am looking forward to playing at Firestone Stadium in front of all their loyal and supportive fans.”

“When I received the call from Sam, I was as excited for her, as I was for our team. Sam is a great addition to our lineup and also to our program here in Akron. She’s a proven veteran of this league and I’m looking forward to watching the “Slamming SAMS” (Marder & Findlay) light up the skies,” remarked Arrietta.

Findlay, originally from Lockport, Illinois, played collegiately at the University of Michigan before being drafted by the Chicago Bandits in 2008. Findlay lifted the Bandits to the 2008 NPF Championship in just her rookie season in the league.

Findlay, as a freshmen, most notably, can be remembered for the three-run shot (top of the 10th), literally heard around the country as Michigan snared the first NCAA Championship east of the Mississippi defeating UCLA 4-1 in 2005. Findlay was named the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Findlay announced her retirement on February 12. 2012 after completing one season of play with the USSSA Pride in 2011. Findlay saw limited action with the Pride before deciding to focus on her career as a collegiate coach and to obtain her Master’s Degree.

The Racers are excited to add the experienced, two-time All-NPF Team player to the 2013 roster after leading the league in 2009 with 11 home runs and 27 RBIs.

Findlay is currently an assistant coach at DePaul University under the direction of former Bandits coach, Eugene Lenti.
