ROSEMONT, Ill. – February 6, 2014 - Chicago Bandits GM, Aaron M. Moore announced today that the team has re-signed both Brittany Cervantes and Danielle Zymkowitz for the upcoming 2014 season.

Both players originally joined the Bandits by way of open tryouts, Zymkowitz in 2011 and Cervantes in 2012, and both have continued to show their versatility on the softball field throughout their careers.

Cervantes, a graduate of the University of Kentucky, has been called upon to play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield, but spent the majority of the 2013 season in right field. The myth of the sophomore slump certainly didn’t affect Cervantes at the plate as she posted career highs all across the board. She finished the 2013 season with a .255 batting average including six homeruns and 17 RBIs as well as an on-base percentage of .382.

After falling to the USSSA Pride in last year’s Championship game, Cervantes is looking forward to getting the opportunity to compete for a Bandits championship this season.

“I’m excited to be returning this summer with the Bandits and competing for an NPF Championship,” said the California native.  “We have the best fans in the world whom I love playing in front of and I’m so grateful to the Bandits organization for giving me the opportunity to continue playing the game I love.”

Cervantes is serving as an Assistant Coach for the Loyola University Ramblers in Chicago, Ill. under former Bandits player Missy Beseres.

“Brittany was a big part of the team’s success in 2013 and she’s going to be asked to contribute even more in 2014,” said Moore.  “She is one of our few right-handed bats in the lineup, which is definitely needed when you face pitchers like Cat (Osterman) and Keilani (Ricketts), and she fared well against them last season.

“Cerv is very versatile defensively and could see time in several positions this summer given the matchups.”

A Big Ten Conference product out of the University of Illinois, Zymkowitz enjoyed a stellar rookie season, earning a spot on the 2011 All-NPF team. After experiencing a bit of a slump in 2012, she came back last season ready to fill in any role that she was asked to do posting numbers similar to that of her rookie season. In 78 at bats she posted a .295 batting average with nine RBIs and an on-base percentage of .337.

Preparing to embark on her fourth season with the Bandits, Zymkowitz is ready to be back with her second family on the diamond.

“I want to thank the Bandit organization for inviting me back another year. It’s a family out there in Chicago and I’m so excited to spend my summer with some of the greatest people I know. We are on a mission this year and I can’t wait to get back to work with that Bandit jersey on.”

Like several of her Bandits teammates, Zymkowitz is spending the offseason in a coaching capacity.  She is in her second season as an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Oakland, N.J.

“Danielle brings so much to the organization and really is a coach’s dream in a lot of ways,” said Moore.  “Since her first season in Rosemont, Z has continued to be a consistent role player and has done a really nice job when her number has been called.

“With Vicky (Galindo) retiring after the 2013 season, Z has a really good chance at becoming the everyday second baseman for the team.  And it’s a position we know she can handle!”
