Moulton Pitches Bandits to Fourth Straight Win, Top Racers 8-3

ROSEMONT, Ill. –  June 6, 2014
- With the game tied at two in the bottom of the third, the Bandits hit back-to-back RBI doubles to take a 4-2 lead. Tammy Williams made it 3-2 with an RBI double followed by Brittany Cervantes who brought in the game winning run with an RBI double to help the Bandits defeat the Akron Racers for the fourth time in five games. With tonight’s 8-3 victory, the Bandits have now won four consecutive games, all against Akron. 
 
The Bandits have now won four games in a row, all against Akron.
 
Bandits starting pitcher, Sara Moulton, collected her third win in as many starts for Chicago pitching four innings, giving up six hits, three runs while striking out six. 
 
Racers starter, Rachele Fico, took the loss for Akron. Fico pitched 6.1 innings giving up seven runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts. Hannah Campbell came in to replace Fico in the sixth.
 
Michelle Gascoigne made her first appearance of the season for the Bandits, coming in as relief for Moulton. Gascoigne had four strikeouts in three innings pitched in the earned save. 
 
The bats for both teams were swinging early with a combined 13 hits in the first four innings. The game finished with a total of 20 hits between the two teams. 
 
The Racers got on the scoreboard with an early Haley Outon RBI single in the first. Outon was able to bring in Taylor Schlopy due to a Kristen Butler throwing error, which allowed Schlopy to advance to third after stealing second.
 
The Bandits scored twice in the bottom of the first to take their first lead of the game. An RBI single by Williams, her first of two in the game, tied things up at one. Cervantes, who continued her hot streak with three RBIs in the game, gave the Bandits the 2-1 lead. 
 
The Racers would tie the game at two in the third on a Kristen Butler throwing error. 
 
With the Bandits ahead by two, the Racers would give Chicago a scare in the fourth, scoring on a Moulton wild pitch to cut the lead to one. 
 
Ahead 4-3, the Bandits would add four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Pinch hitter, Kirsten Verdun would hit a two run double to make it 6-3. Zymkowitz’s RBI single put Chicago ahead by four and Cervantes sacrifice fly, her third RBI of the game, made it 8-3. 
 
The Bandits and Akron return to action tomorrow night, Friday, June 7 at 7:35 p.m. at the Ballpark at Rosemont. 
 
Game Notes:
* There were four total errors in the game, two for each team. Bandits’ catcher, Kristen Butler had both errors for Chicago. 
* Brittany Cervantes, who now is seven hits at 18 at bats with 14 RBIs for a .389 batting average on the season, continues to have the hot bat. 
* In the first five games against, the Bandits have outscored Akron 37-19.
* Emily Allard was the player of the game. She went 3-for-4 with three runs in the 8-3 win.

National Pro Fastpitch is headquartered in Nashville, TN. The league, created to give elite female fastpitch players the opportunity to pursue a professional career in their chosen sport, has operated since 1997 under the names of Women’s Pro Fastpitch (WPF) and Women’s Pro Softball League (WPSL). NPF is the Official Development Partner of Major League Baseball in the category of women’s fastpitch softball since 2002.
