Rosemont, IL - July 3, 2014 - Tammy Williams and Brittany Cervantes had the hot bats against the Akron Racers on Thursday night at the Ballpark at Rosemont as the Bandits took game one of the series, 8-5.

Williams and Cervantes each finished with three RBIs on the night, including a towering two run homerun in bottom of the third by Williams.

Cervantes continued her domination at the plate against the Racers this season as she 21 of her 28 RBIs have come against Akron.

Andi Williamson started in the circle for Chicago with Hannah Campbell getting the call for Akron. Both pitchers struggled early and were pulled after just two innings pitched for their respective teams.

Cervantes opened the scoring in the first inning with a two run RBI single while a double by Williams made it a 3-0 game. Akron cut the lead to one in their half of the second as Jessica Garcia reached home on an illegal pitch followed by a Jill Barrett RBI double.

Sara Moulton came on in relief to start the third, pitching three innings.

Seven of the Bandits eight runs came in the first three innings with Emily Allard’s single in the second scoring Kaylyn Castillo to give the Bandits a 4-2 lead while Cervantes’ RBI double followed by Williams’ home run put the Bandits up 7-2 in the third. Allison Owen came in to pitch for Racers following the double by Cervantes, finishing out the game Akron.

Estela Pinon came in as relief in the sixth inning as the Racers threatened, cutting the lead to 7-4 off an RBI single by Nerissa Myers before the Bandits were able to get out of the inning. Pinon gave up two runs on three hits.

The Bandits added their eighth run of the game in the sixth off a Zymkowitz double to left field that plated Allard as the Racers found themselves down to their final three outs. Kirsten Verdun came in to finish out the game but the Racers offense wasn’t done yet. Jennifer Gilbert’s solo shot cut the Bandits lead to three before Verdun and the Bandits finished out the inning to secure the victory.

Williamson gave up two runs on three hits with one strikeout as she picked up a no-decision, while Moulton picked up the victory. In her three innings of work she gave up two hits, while retiring three batters.

The series continues tomorrow as the Bandits begin their Fourth of July celebration early with a 2:05 p.m. start at the Ballpark. Tickets for tomorrow’s game start at just $4. Call 877-722-6348 or visit www.chicagobandits.com to order.
