NPF CHAMPIONSHIP PUT ON HOLD BECAUSE OF WEATHERNew England and NY/NJ Will Begin at Noon Tomorrow

AKRON, Ohio – For the second consecutive night in Akron, Mother Nature has played a role in the action, this time canceling the opening game of the 2004 NPF Championship Series between the New England Riptide and NY/NJ Juggernaut.

The two teams will try to get all of the action in beginning tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. EDT. If the weather doesn’t cooperate for the championship series, the two teams may be forced to play one decisive game. Game two of the series is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. EDT and game three, if necessary, will immediately follow.

The #4 seed Riptide advanced to the championship series by upsetting the Texas Thunder, who finished 2004 with the regular season championship. NY/NJ moved into the championship series by winning two of three games from the Akron Racers.

During the regular season, the two teams played five extra inning games, including a professional diamond sports record 27 innings in a Juggernaut 3-2 victory on June 21. The two teams also played a 16-inning game that NY/NJ also won on June 2.

If the weather looks threatening, the Juggernaut will send Amanda Scott to the mound and New England’s Leigh Ann Ellis will oppose her for the Riptide. If the series looks like it will go more than one game, Kaci Clark will begin the series in the circle for NY/NJ.

Fans will still be able to catch the action live on www.npf.prosportsradio.com beginning at 11:45 a.m. EDT for the Majestic Athletic Pregame Show. Lindsay Gardner of the Texas Thunder will be a special guest announcer for the first game of the day. Kelly Patsic, a staff member from the NY/NJ Juggernaut, will join Bob Eres and Brian Baltosiewich for the second broadcast that will begin at 4 p.m. EDT.

NPF, the world’s premier professional fastpitch softball league for women, consists of six teams located throughout the United States and features former USA Softball Women’s National Team members, collegiate All-Americans and all-conference selections.
