Bay Earns Bandits' First No-Hitter

Lisle, Ill.-- Lauren Bay recorded another bit of Bandit history on Thursday night, securing the first no-hitter in franchise history against the Stratford Brakettes. The Canadian Olympian struck out nine batters and walked one giving Chicago a 2-0 victory.

After Bay retired the top half of the first inning, recording one strikeout, the Bandits got on the board quickly. Bandit third baseman Vicky Galindo slapped a pitch to second baseman Amanda Jensen who made an impressive diving stop. However, the throw to first skipped wide of the first baseman Callie Piper and Galindo recorded the hit and advanced to third on the error.

Next up second baseman Liz Bouck drove a ball to third baseman Jen Owens. She conceding the run, but her throw was late allowing Bouck to reach base. However, she was stranded on third, with the Bandits up, 1-0.

With the score still deadlocked at 1-0, Bandit shortstop Jaime Clark led off the bottom of the fourth inning. The University of Washington’s all-time home run leader powered through a ball and dropped it down into leftfield. Clark had rounded third before she realized the raised arms of the third base umpire, who had ruled the ball foul. Undaunted, Clark retaliated by driving a ball over the right-centerfield fence, for her fourth home run in as many games. The shot gave the home team the lead at 2-0.

With her recent longball explosion, Clark is now tied with Finch and two others for third on the NPF's home run leaderboard.

Five Bandits recorded a single hit a piece to propel the offense. Clark and Bouck recorded the game's only two RBI.

Although the top of the seventh brought some stress on the Bandits as the Brakettes had runners on all three bases with only one out, the Bandits were able to finish up strong. After a time out in the circle, Piper returned the pitch to Bay as a ground ball. Bay gunned the ball to catcher Selena Collins for an out and the plate, who turned it to Finch at first base for a double play to end the inning and game.

On the night Bay struck out nine, and allowing one walk and two hit batsmen. With the victory, her seventh of the year, Bay moves into a tie for the league lead with New York Juggernaut hurler, Jodie Cox.

Bay also ranks fourth in the NPF in ERA among pitchers with three or more starts. The former Oklahoma State Cowgirl is second in the league in strike outs (59) to another Juggernaut pitcher, Peaches James (69).
