Thunder Trips Up Tide, 3-2

Lowell, Mass-- It was another exciting night at Martin Softball Field when the New England Riptide and Texas Thunder met again for game three in a four-game series in front of the largest crowd of the season.

The Thunder came out on top Saturday night winning 3-2 behind a solid performance by pitcher Christa Williams, who gave up five hits and struck out seven batters. Riptide pitcher Danielle Henderson also pitched well, allowing just four hits, one earned run and striking out seven.

In the top of the first inning, lead off hitter Kristen Zaleski reached safely with a dribbler down the first base line and then advanced to second when Lindsay Gardner walked. Both runners scored after two consecutive errors, one a catcher's obstruction and on a mishandled ground ball with two outs that would have held the Thunder scoreless.

In the top of the second inning Zaleski walked and was brought around to score on a single by Clare Burnum to make the score 3-0.

The Riptide answered in the bottom of the third inning. Second baseman Lyndsey Angus hit an RBI single driving in Ashley Moore who had reached on a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

The Texas Thunder threatened in the fifth but was held to no runs after back-to-back outstanding plays at the plate by Riptide catcher Jess Allister.

The Riptide made the game interesting in the bottom of the seventh. No runs had scored in three and a half innings and then left fielder Ashley Moore blasted a shot over the left field wall for her first home run of the season. Lisa Iancin followed with a double in the gap to bring the winning run to the plate but the Riptide was unable to pull it out.

The series wraps up on Sunday June 26, at 5:05 pm at Martin Softball Field. It is Girl Scouts Night. All Girl Scouts get in for $4 and parents/troop leaders get in for $6.
