Relentless Offense Leads Nauts Past Thunder

Hempstead, NY-- On a rainy night at Hofstra Softball Stadium, the Juggernaut offense took the game over to earn a come-from-behind win over the Texas Thunder in an 8-3 ball game. The New York offense was led by Chelsea Spencer who hit her first home run of the season.

Alicia Smith put up another solid performance at the plate going two for three with an RBI and a run. Peaches James threw five innings in the win, while striking out eight opposing batters. Jodie Cox came on in relief, shutting the door against the Thunder. She did not allow a hit in two innings of work and recorded three strikeouts for the Juggernaut.

The Texas Thunder struck early in the game, grabbing the early the lead. Amanda Freed drew a one-out walk in the third inning to start things off for the Thunder. Erin Evans followed with an infield single. Kristen Zaleski drove in two runs with a bases clearing triple to deep left field. Clare Burnum capped off the three-run inning for the Thunder with an RBI single to left field to push Texas ahead 3-0.

The Juggernaut rallied in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Trena Peel led off the inning with a walk. A sacrifice bunt and an error put two runners on for New York. Alicia Smith maintained a hot bat tonight, notching an RBI single to score Peel. Kim Ogee reached first on a walk from Thunder starter Amanda Freed.

Two batters later, with runners on second and third, Carri Leto hit a sacrifice fly to score Ogee from third to end the scoring in a four-run inning for the Juggernaut.

New York added more runs in the fifth as Chelsea Spencer hit her first home run of the season. Trena Peel led off the inning with her second of two walks on the day. Spencer followed with a two-run shot over the left field fence to add more runs to the Nauts' lead. Two crucial errors in the fifth by the Thunder defense allowed Ogee and Watley to score, increasing the New York lead to 8-3.

Jodie Cox came on in relief for the Juggernaut in the sixth inning throwing two hitless innings of play while recording three strikeouts. The Thunder offense scored early, but was not enough to overcome a resilient Juggernaut offense.
