Tucson, Ariz.-- The Arizona Heat played homerun derby with the Flames pitching tonight, setting a franchise record with five in one game. Stacey Nuveman led the offense by hitting two homeruns. Jessica Mendoza, Phelan Wright and Toni Mascarenas added one each in the 15-0 victory. Erica Beach, Randi Nielson and Toni Mascarenas combined to shut the Flames out for the third straight night.

Beach started for the third consecutive game, allowing only one hit and one walk. Beach has thrown eleven scoreless innings in the series allowing only two hits. Nielson once again relieved her by throwing two innings of two hit ball. For the third night in a row, Nuveman would drive in what would prove to be the game winning run. Tairia Flowers followed with a single of her own that plated Jung and the Heat stretched their lead. The next batter, Toni Mascarenas hit her third homerun of the season to put the Heat up 5-0.

Back to back doubles by Coburn and Wright added another run, before Jessica Mendoza hit the second three-run homerun of the inning. The homerun was Mendoza’s team high fifth of the year and gave the Heat a 10-0 lead.

The Heat bats were back at it in the third. Bauer and Jung singled to put two runners on base and Stacey Nuveman drove them both in with her second homerun of the season. The Heat added another run in the fourth on a homerun by Phelan Wright. In the bottom of the fifth, Stacey Nuveman crushed her second homerun of the game to put the Heat up 15-0. The multi-homer game was the first of the season for the Heat, and gave Nuveman three on the season.

Eight of the Heat starters had at least one hit, with six having multi-hit games. Jessica Mendoza has four hits on her won and also scored two runs and drove in three. The three RBIs gave Mendoza a team leading eighteen for the season. Stacey Nuveman finished the night three for four with three runs and five RBIs.
