PEEL POWERS NAUTS PAST VENEZUELA

By:
Hempstead, NY-Trena Peel hit her first home run of the season to break open a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning. Jodie Cox came on in relief in the top of the same inning to register the win for the Juggernaut. Cox tallied six strikeouts and gave up only one hit in four innings of work from the mound. Peaches James threw the first three innings and held the Venezuelan National Team scoreless, picking up two strikeouts along the way. Kaleo Eldredge added some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as she singled in two runs to put the Nauts ahead 3-0.

The game began as a pitcher’s dual, and continued as such for the first three innings. Trena Peel broke a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth as she smashed a solo home run over the right field fence for her first home run of the season. Peel, 2004 NPF leader in home runs, also notched her sixth RBI of the season to give the Nauts a lead.

The Juggernaut pitching staff, consisting of starter Peaches James and reliever Jodie Cox on the night, were able to keep the Venezuelan offense off balance throughout the game. The pitcher combined for eight strikeouts, while allowing just two hits through seven innings of work.

Kaleo Eldredge added two more runs in favor of the Juggernaut in the bottom of the sixth inning. Leah Nelson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. She was followed by a walk to Peel to put two runners on. A fly out by Chelsea Spencer and a groundout by Jacki Pasquerella left the Nauts with two outs, with two runners left on first and second. Eldredge, who just returned to New York after playing with the USA Elite team in the Canada Cup, managed to come through in the clutch. She hit a single up the middle to score both Belson and Peel to finish off the scoring for the Nauts.

Eldredge ended up 1-for-1 on the day after replacing Alicia Smith as a runner in the fourth inning. Peel also finished 1-for-1 on the day with an RBI, two runs, and two walks to power the Juggernaut past Venezuela.

The New York Juggernaut would like to thank Rita’s Water Ice, Alert Contracting and Landscaping, J & J’s Italian Restaurant, Starbucks, Panera Bread and Olive Garden for contributing to tonight’s game.
