NPF All-Stars will play final game of summer tour tomorrow night in Pasadena, California

Sugar Land, Texas – The temperature in Houston reached 97 degrees this past week – nearly as hot as NPF All-Star Tarrah Beyster.

Beyster (Oregon State) continued her torrid week in Texas, collecting two more hits and pitching her fifth shutout of the season in Thursday’s 4-0 win against the Texas College Stars. In two games this week against the College Stars she is 5-for-6, including her first home run of the season, and has raised her batting average from .239 to .308.

The home run from Beyster followed a home run by clean-up hitter Jaime Foutch (Oklahoma State) the inning before. Foutch delivered the first big blow of the ballgame off College Star starter Erin Bolton (Houston Baptist) in the home half of the third inning, her fourth home run of the season. The home run followed a sharp single by Lyndsey Klein (UCLA) to left field. Lauren Bauer (Arizona) started the rally in the third with a bunt single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on her fourth stolen base and scored on the same play following a throwing error by catcher Diana Rychlik (Houston Baptist).

On the mound, Beyster was equally as tough, as great pitching and great defense earned her the 4-0 victory. All nine position players made at least one defensive out, with Foutch recording a team-high five assists. In the game, Beyster surrendered only four College Star hits, while striking out one and improving her team best ERA to a minuscule 0.36. Dating back to a June 18 loss in Milwaukee to the Stratford Brakettes, Beyster has gone 37 innings without allowing an earned run.

The NPF All-Stars, who have now won 17 of 23 games this summer, will play a third game Friday, Aug. 8 at Phelps Field in Fairmont Park in Pasadena, Texas, at 7 p.m. against the Texas College Stars. The game in Pasadena is a part of the five days the All-Stars will spend in the Houston area, and will be the final game of the season for the NPF All-Stars.

In addition to posting a 17-6 record in games in California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, Tennessee, Phoenix, Tucson, Akron, Lowell, Klein, and Sugar Land this season, the NPF All-Stars have hosted clinics and made appearances at Major League Baseball games in San Francisco, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Denver, Miami, Atlanta, Phoenix, Chicago, Cincinnati, Boston and Katy.

The Houston-area stop for the NPF All-Stars will also be in conjunction with the 11th annual Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series. Hosted by the Houston Astros, the RBI World Series will be held August 6 -13, 2003 in Houston, TX. The RBI World Series is the championship round of the RBI program. The RBI preliminary rounds will be played at Baseball USA (2626 W. Sam Houston Parkway North, Houston, TX 77043) with the Boys Championships games being played at: Minute Maid Park.

RBI is a youth outreach program designed to promote interest in baseball, increase the self-esteem of disadvantaged children, and encourage kids to stay in school and off the streets. Managed by Major League Baseball in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, RBI programs have been started in more than 185 cities worldwide, giving more than 120,000 boys and girls the opportunity to play baseball and softball annually. The Astros In Action Foundation has partnered the RBI program with the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department to offer children in the Houston-area the opportunity to play organized baseball and softball in their communities.

National Pro Fastpitch is the only professional women's fastpitch softball league in the United States. Major League Baseball is the Official Development Partner of NPF. The league is headquartered in Denver, and has been in operation since 1997 under the names Women's Pro Fastpitch (WPF) and Women's Professional Softball League (WPSL).

The NPF All-Stars will play games their final August 8 in Pasadena, while staging a morning clinic at the game site. In addition to the games and clinics, the NPF All-Stars will participate in a clinic before the Astros game August 9 at Minute Maid Park.
