Home Runs from Nelson and Realmuto Lead Juggernaut Past Riptide

July 24, 2005 - HEMPSTEAD, NY - Leah Nelson hit her first
professional home run and Ryan Realmuto belted her seventh to
provide the Juggernaut with the only two RBIs of the game, as the
Juggernaut overcame the New England Riptide 4-3 in a nail-biter.
Peaches James came on in relief to shut down the New England
offense, allowing just one hit and seven strikeouts in four and
two-third innings.

The Riptide jumped on Juggernaut starter Jodie Cox early on in the
game. Lyndsey Angus, Lisa Iancin and Kellie Wilkerson hit singles
to load the bases, but stellar defense by third baseman Jackie
Pasquerella got the Nauts out of the jam as she caught Sarah
Andersen's line drive to rob her of a hit and double Angus at
third.

New York scored a lone run in the second as Realmuto walked to
start off the inning. Trena Peel was successful in executing the
sacrifice bunt and Chelsea Spencer followed with an infield
single. Riptide shortstop Stephanie Best threw the ball away on
the play to first, allowing Realmuto to score the first run of the
ballgame.

New England retaliated in the third inning. Back-to-back singles
by Sara Jewett and Lyndsey Angus began the Riptide rally. Lisa
Iancin grounded into a fielder's choice, leaving runners at the
corner for the Tide. Kellie Wilkerson followed with a single to
right field to score Jewett. Cox then allowed a walk to Sarah
Andersen, before allowing another RBI single to Ashley Courtney.
Four hits and three runs into the inning, Peaches James came on in
relief for Cox. After allowing a fielder's choice RBI to Rachael
McGinnis, James settled down to strike out the final two batters,
leaving the score 3-1.

Ryan Realmuto hit a solo home run in the fourth and Nelson hit her
first career home run in the fifth to tie the score up at three.
Kellie Wilkerson came on after the home run to relieve Danielle
Henderson, who was making her second start in as many days. This
was only Wilkerson's second appearance in the circle of the year.
Meanwhile the Tide squandered opportunities in the fifth and
sixth, failing to get the timely hits. New England stranded nine
runners on base and New York only two.

The Juggernaut scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to
take home the win. With two outs, Kim Ogee walked to start the
rally. Jackie Pasquerella followed with an infield single to set
up two runners for Natasha Watley. Watley hit a soft line drive to
left field, but the ball was misplayed and dropped by Sara Jewett
to allow Ogee to score the game winner.
