Texas Thunder win both games in Saturday's Doubleheader

In Game 1 of the double header, Texas Thunder picked up win number two in the 4-game series over the So Cal Schutt Hurricanes with a final score of 3-2 to improve their winning streak to fourteen consecutive games. With the day highlighted by several tough defensive gems by third baseman Clare Burnum and second baseman Lindsay Gardner. Thunder starter Mayumi Murakami went the
distance for seven full innings and held the Hurricanes to just two runs.

The Hurricanes got on the board first as second baseman Ashley Herrera scored on right fielder Krista Colburn's base hit in the top of the first inning. Thunder answered in the third with two runs to take the lead, 2-1. Right fielder Julie Watson reached first on her second single of the day and centerfielder Kristen Zaleski followed with a bunt single of her own. Burnum then plated Watson on a sacrifice fly and Zaleski scored on a delayed steal from third to take the lead.
With the bases loaded and a rally mounting, the Hurricanes only managed
one more run in the top of the fourth. Hurricane shortstop Becky Turi plated left fielder Mallory Miller on a sacrifice fly and a timely double play by Burnum stopped the rally with a tie score of 2-2.

Thunder answered just in time with their third and final run as pinch
hitter Monica Garza laid down the suicide squeeze to plate Burnum and
give Thunder a 3-2 lead to close out the sixth. Murakami retired the
next three batters and Thunder picked up their second win of the series
with a final score of 3-2.

In Game 2 it was another commanding pitching performance by starter
Christa Williams, Thunder claimed their third victory over the So Cal
Schutt Hurricanes and took their fourth consecutive series with a final
score of 7-0. Williams allowed only two hits while grabbing eight
strikeouts in six innings of work to improve her record to 14-3 and move
Thunder to an overall record of 27-8.

Thunder claimed their first run in the bottom of the first inning as left fielder Kim Nesloney led off with a triple to the right field gap. She later scored on a passed ball and Thunder closed out the first with a 1-0 lead.

Nearly four more innings would pass before Thunder erupted in the bottom of the fifth with three unanswered runs off two hits to give Thunder a 4-0 lead. Centerfielder Kristen Zaleski drove in Nesloney on a base hit to right field and with aggressive base running and a timely throwing error, Zaleski scored on a missed throw down to third base. Thunder would add one final run as second baseman Lindsay Gardner looped a lazy fly ball just beyond second base to plate third baseman Clare Burnum and close out the sixth with a score of 4-0.

Thunder would claim their final runs in the bottom of the sixth as Zaleski ripped a towering triple to plate both designated player Erin Evans and catcher Denise Dahlberg and then stole home to score as well. The final three runs would prove all Thunder would need as pitcher Jamie Falco came in relief in the top of the seventh to give Thunder the victory.

With the win, Thunder improves to 27-8 on the season and claims their
fourth consecutive series of the regular season.

Texas Thunder will finish out the 4-game series with So Cal Schutt
Hurricanes Sunday at 1pm at Big League Dreams Sports Park in League
