ERRORS PROVE COSTLY AGAIN AS BANDITS TAKE GAME THREE

Hempstead, NY - Amanda Scott took the loss for the Juggernaut tonight, 3-1, but did not allow an earned run in the complete game she pitched. She gave up just four hits and struck out five, but errors played a major factor in tonight’s loss to the first place Chicago Bandits. Alicia Smith provided the most offense for New York, who only tallied five hits against Bandit starter, Amy Harre. Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Nauts, who conclude their 2005 home season tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

The Chicago Bandits produced all three runs needed to take game three in the fourth inning. With one out, designated player Selena Collins hit a single to left field. Christina Enea followed with a fly ball to shallow right field which tipped off the glove of Nauts second baseman, allowing Enea to reach first on the first New York error of the evening. Amanda Scott then issued a walk to Haley Viefhaus to load the bases. Pinch hitter Lindsey Hamma tallied the second hit of the inning to score Collins. A hard lineout to Trena Peel in right field by Laura Harms recorded the second out of the inning. Another costly error on the next batter, pinch hitter Mel Wallach, allowed two more runs to cross the plate in favor of the Bandits. Scott got Liz Bouck to groundout to Chelsea Spencer at shortstop to end the inning.

New York rallied back in the bottom of the seventh. Back-to-back hits by Kaleo Eldredge and Leah Nelson got the offense going for the Nauts. Two strikeouts, courtesy of Chicago reliever Lauren Bay, left runners on first and second for Alicia Smith in the bottom of the seventh inning. Smith was up to the challenge, as she lined a double over the right fielder’s head, scoring Eldredge from second base. Pinch hitter Laura Taylor walked to load the bases, but Carri Leto flew out to shortstop to end the game in favor the Chicago Bandits.

Chicago has taken the first three games of the series, but the New York Juggernaut look to redeem themselves in game four, their last home game of the 2005 season, tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
