Countdown to Championships

The hard work and dedication of the six teams in the National Pro Fastpitch league will all come down to the events during the weekend of August 27-28th. As the newest addition to the league, the Chicago Bandits will be hosting the 2005 NPF Playoffs and All-Star game at their home field in Lisle, Ill.

In their inaugural season, the Bandits have been providing entertainment and lots of giveaways to each fan who enters the ballpark. The Bandits are promising no less during the Playoff and All-Star weekend. It will be the perfect outing for the whole family to end the summer.

Softball fans from all over will be making the pilgrimage to Lisle to witness the best of the best in the game of softball. Players from NCAA Championship teams, Olympic Gold Medalist, and players with roots in the Chicagoland area will come together on their NPF teams to put on this exclusive show.

The single elimination tournament will be played over the course of two days and concluding with the All-Star Game. The teams invited to play will be the top four teams with the best records in the league.

On Saturday, August 27th the first round of playoffs will be split into two games at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. with an award ceremony and entertainment in between. Awards that will be given out to players and coaches of the NPF are "Pitcher of the Year," “Offensive Player of the Year,” “Defensive Player of the Year,” “Coach of the Year,” and “Player of the Year.” Entertainment will be provided by the incredible Frisbee Dogs as the will be performing their acts.

The winners of Saturday’s games will face each other in the 2005 Championship Game at noon on Sunday. After top two teams battle for the title of Champions, the best power hitters in the league will compete in the Homerun Derby. Click here for the list of players participating in the Homerun Derby.

At 3 p.m. on Sunday, the most talented players in the league will face off in a game between NPF East and West. Players from the New York Juggernaut, the New England Riptide, and the Akron Racers have been selected to play on the East team. The West team will consist of players from the Chicago Bandits, the Arizona Heat, and the Texas Thunder.

Softball will not be the only athletic talent displayed this weekend. The legendary Jessie White Tumblers will take the field to show off their impressive jaw dropping stunts in between the Homerun Derby and the All-Star Game. The Homerun Derby will be sponsored by Louisville Slugger and Anderson Bat Company.

In appreciation to the youngster, the first 300 kids each day under the age of 14 will receive a free Jennie Finch bobblehead doll. The first 1000 kids will also receive Official Autograph Cards. Jennie Finch Official USA Autograph Cards will be given out randomly throughout the weekend.

The Championship Game and All-Star Game will be televised ESPN2 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Central Time respectively. Gold Medalist Cat Osterman will throw out the ceremonial pitch for Saturday's first game and the Championship Game on Sunday will be thrown out by Chicago Bulls' Chris Duhon.

The single-day passes will be $18 for box seats and $14 for reserved grandstands, and weekend passes will be $30 for box seats and $20 for reserved grandstands.
