Philadelphia Signs All-American Jennifer Stewart

The Philadelphia Force of National Pro Fastpitch has announced the signing of Yukon, Oklahoma native, Jennifer Stewart. Stewart, a graduate of Oklahoma University, will enter into her first year as a professional athlete with the Force. She joins Lauren Bay, Jodie Cox and Alison Higgs, as the fourth southpaw in the pitching rotation for the Force. The Force has also drafted two right-handed pitchers, Stephanie VanBrakle (Alabama) and Courtnay Foster (Northwestern), who are both eligible to sign contracts after the conclusion of their collegiate seasons.

Stewart was named the 2000 Women’s College World Series Most Outstanding Player after guiding the Sooners to their first ever NCAA National Championship. In addition to her two All-America accolades, Stewart was a three-time All-Midwest Region selection and a four-time All-Big 12 honoree. Stewart led OU to three straight WCWS appearances and collected two NCAA Regional MVP honors, in addition to being named to the WCWS All-Tournament team on two occasions. She also holds the career pitching records for winning percentage (.821), victories (115), innings pitched (928.2) and games started (135). Additionally, she ranks second in complete games (91), appearances (167) and shutouts (35).

Stewart made a recent decision to join the Force and the professional league. “Coming out of college I thought my playing career was over; there weren’t many opportunities when I graduated. Over the last few years, I’ve realized how much I’ve missed playing. When this opportunity came along, I knew I was ready to give it another chance.”

Stewart began her coaching career at Coastal Carolina where she served as the team's pitching coach during the 2004 season. She also served as the pitching coach at Texas Tech University for two years, before relocating east to join the Force. She feels that her collegiate coaching experience will contribute to her success as an NPF player. “Coaching for three years has not only made me realize how much I love this sport, but I feel it has helped me become a better player. I have a new perspective on the mental approach to the game, and I have a greater understanding on body awareness as an athlete.”

Stewart is currently training extensively for the 2006 season with teammate, Ryan Realmuto. She is also giving pitching lessons to local softball players. For more information on lessons with Stewart, contact Terri Adams, or call (215) 441-8600 x305.

Don’t miss Jennifer Stewart and the rest of the Force on opening day, June 7, 2006 against the Connecticut Brakettes at ECTB Stadium at Bicentennial Field in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Stewart promises that the pitching staff “will be a fun staff to watch and we will compete in every game. We play hard and with passion that is guided by our tremendous love for the game.”
