Force Win Second Straight

Game Box Score

Allentown, Pennsylvania - After last night’s extra inning contest resulting in a 5-4 victory, the Philadelphia Force (2-4) took game two of the series against the Texas Thunder (7-3) on Thursday evening. The Force offense produced eight runs on 12 hits en route to their second win on the season. Southpaw Jenn Stewart and hurler Candice Freel combined for – strikeouts, as Stewart earned her first win of the year.

The Force got things started in the top of the first inning with back to back singles by Sarah Fekete (3-for-4) and Carri Leto (3-for-4). Chelsea Spencer successfully sacrificed both runners, and a fielding error by the catcher allowed her to reach first base. With bases loaded, first baseman Jenna Hall hit a single passed the pitcher, scoring Fekete and keeping the bases loaded for the Force. Jaime Dacey (2-for-4) came to the plate hitting a deep two RBI single to right field. With runners on first and second Ryan Realmuto hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop who misplayed the ball to load the bases again. A sacrifice fly by Melissa Ramirez scored Jenna Hall and a throwing error to second base allowed Dacey to score, giving the Force a 5-0 lead.

Ramirez led off the third inning reaching first base on an error. Cameron sacrificed herself with a bunt to advance Ramirez who ended up taking third as Texas was not covering the bag. Fekete had a hard slap to the first baseman who made an error to score Ramirez and allowed Fekete first base. Fekete had her first steal of the season for the Force.

In the bottom of the fourth inning Spencer and Hall had back to back singles and the Force had runners on first and third. Grace came into the game as a pinch runner for Hall and stole second base placing herself in scoring position for Dacey at the plate. Dacey popped out to deep short stop giving Texas one out with runners still in scoring position. Confusing came upon the field as Spencer was called out on obstruction after getting into a pickle between third and home. Realmuto flew out to left field and the score remained 6-0 as the Force continued to put pressure on the Thunder.

Julie Watson and Kim Nesloney led off the top of the fifth inning for Texas with back to back singles. Lindsey Gardner hit a line drive to Spencer who made a stretching dive onto Watson capturing the double play. Karrie Rider grounded out to Spencer to end the inning scoreless as the Force defense held strong.

Stacie Pestrak had her first NPF appearance at the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. She was brought in by a double from Friedman giving the Force a lead of 7-0 going into the top of the sixth inning.

Pitcher Candice Freel and catcher Ashley Smith entered into the game for the Force for their first NPF appearances. In Freel’s first inning with the Force she struck out two batters and drew a pop up for the three outs in the inning.

In the top of the seventh the Thunder managed to load the bases on two walks and a single. With the bases loaded and one out, Settlemier was caught looking at a third strike. Rider hit a ground ball to third base but Freidman was unable to make a play, giving Texas their first and only run of the game.

The Force will take on the Texas Thunder for game two of the home series Thursday, June 15 at 7:05pm.
