Arizona Takes Game Three with Thunder 2-0

Game Box Score

Spring, Texas – The Texas Thunder offense continues to struggle as they were shut out for the second straight night by the Arizona Heat, 2-0, at Collins Park in Spring, Texas.

On Thursday night the Heat’s (7-8) Leslie Wolfe tossed a three-hit shutout to defeat the Thunder 3-0, but she was outdone on Friday by teammate Desiree Serrano. Serrano, who improved to 4-2 with the win, went the distance for Arizona allowing just one hit in the game. The right-hander from Arizona State faced some trouble as she walked six in the game, but she used five strikeouts in the game to retire the Thunder.

Arizona got on the board early in the game by scoring a single run in the top half of the second inning. Jackie Coburn starting things off for the Heat with a single to center. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a wild pitch by Thunder starter Nicole Neuerburg and eventually came around to score on a Shelly Schultz single to center.

Coburn also scored the Heat’s second run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by centerfielder LaDonia Hughes to make the score 2-0.

Neuerburg (1-2) went four innings as the Thunder starter, allowing one earned run on six hits. She didn’t walk or strikeout a batter during her time in the game. Rookie Serena Settlemier relieved Neuerburg, but she lasted just one inning allowing the second Heat run after allowing a hit and two walks. Christa Williams pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit.

The Thunder offense has been in a rut for the last six games. The team has scored just three runs or less in each of the games over that stretch to see their record fall to 9-6 on the season.

Saturday night’s game will be played at Collins Park (6727 Cypresswood Drive) in Spring, Texas with the first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Williams is scheduled to start in the circle for Texas, while Leslie Wolfe will toe the rubber for the Arizona Heat.

Be sure to arrive early as former University of Texas All-American and National Team member Cat Osterman will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. All tickets for Saturday night’s game will be five dollars, with teams participating in the Spring-Klein tournament receiving a one-dollar discount.
