TUCSON, ARIZ – The Arizona Heat fell to the US National Team in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader 4-1. Crystl Bustos paced the USA offense and Monica Abbott kept the Heat bats cold for six innings.

Leslie Wolfe got the start for the Heat opposite of Abbott and kept the game close for four innings. She was removed after the fourth, allowing four runs on five hits. Abbott was almost untouchable on the night, allowing only a pair of singles to Autumn Champion and two walks. She fanned seven in her six innings of work. Team USA struck early in the top half of the first. Natasha Watley led off the game with a single and was sacrificed to second by Caitlin Lowe. Crystal Bustos dropped a double down the right field line to put Team USA up 1-0. Wolfe settled down, holding the National Team scoreless for the next two innings.

Bustos returned to the plate in the top of the fourth and took the first pitch over the left field wall for a solo homerun. Team USA was not done in the inning, loading the bases for Watley. She delivered with a two-run single to right, making the score 4-0.

Abbott continued to hold the Heat bats silent cruising through the first six innings. Serrano matched her inning for inning, not allowing Team USA to score any more runs.

The Heat got on the board in the seventh with Osterman in the game. Catalina Morris led off the inning with a base hit. Three batters later, Heather Scaglione roped a triple into right center scoring the Heat’s lone run.

Autumn Champion connected on two of the Heat’s four hits, finishing two for two on the night. Heather Scaglione delivered her team leading tenth RBI on the season with a triple.

Crystl Bustos led the USA offense, finishing three for four with a homerun and two RBIs. Natasha Watley and Vicky Galindo contributed two hits apiece with Watley driving in the other two runs.
