Bandits Take Second Straight Game From Akron

Game Box Score

Lisle, Ill. – After defeating the defending 2005 NPF champion Akron Racers, in 10 innings, the Chicago Bandits returned to Benedictine for the second match-up of the homestand. Starting on the mound for the Bandits was Gina Oaks, coming into the game with a record of 2-1, and a season earned run average of 1.34. After striking out seven and only giving up three hits to the Racers for the night, Oaks earned her third win of the season. The game ended 1-0 with the Bandits racking up six hits in the evening’s competition, bring the series to the Bandits leading 2-0.

The Bandits got off to a quick start this evening in the bottom of the first as leadoff batter, Trena Peel, earned the squad their first base runner with a single up the middle. Peel would later advance to second by a well-executed sacrifice bunt by Iowa graduate, Stacy May. Next up for the Bandits was shortstop, Janie Clark, who ripped a single down the third baseline, allowing Peel to press on to third. With runners on first and third, Nicole Trimboli approached the plate, hitting the shot to the right side, allowing Peel to score safely at home. Leaving the first, the Bandits would lead 1-0.

To jump-start the third, May began by belting a ball to deep left center, for a stand up double. The next two batters, Clark and Mackenzie Vandergeest earned two consecutive walks to load the bases for the Bandits, but the squad was not able to capitalize on their situation as the following to players popped out to end the inning. As the Bandits ended the inning, the score still remained with the Chicago squad in the lead 1-0.

As the Bandits entered the bottom of the sixth, Amanda Williams set the Bandits in motion by lining a hard hit ball up the middle. Williams was followed by another smash by Selena Collins to left field. After Oaks entered the game to pinch run for Collins, Christina Enea walked to load the bases for the squad. The Bandits once again fell just short as Peel was robbed on a line drive down the leftfield line by Akron third baseman Sara Larquier.

With Akron down to their last three outs, Oaks kept her stamina and finished off the side. Oaks continued to get stronger and stronger as the game went on allowing the Bandits to pick up their 14th win for the season with ease.

The third game of the homestand against the Akron Racers will start again tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
