Bandits Sweep Heat

Game Box Score

Lisle, Ill. – After taking three straight from the Arizona Heat this week, The Bandits completed the sweep over the Heat, giving the Bandits there second straight sweep at home. Amy Harre took the mound for the squad this afternoon, picking up her eighth win of the season. In the 10-5 win, Harre only gave up two runs in her seven innings of passionate pitching.

The Heat would jump way out ahead of the Bandits in the first inning, starting with a bunt single by Catalina Morris, and then a hit batter by Harre. With Morris at second and Crystal Farley at first, Kaleo Eldredge laid down a sacrifice bunt to the left side, allowing both base runners to advance. Next up, was Heather Scaglione who hit a shot to Laura Harms at second. Harms fired the ball home to catch Morris braking for home, but Selena Collins was not able to hang onto the ball to make the tag at the plate, allowing Morris to score. With runners at first and third, Toni Mascarenas hit a shot at Harre, but the Bandits were not able to come up with the out as Harre threw the ball over Nicole Trimboli’s head at first.
The throwing error allowed Farley to score from third, and Scaglione and Mascarenas to advance to second and third. The scoring did not stop there
though as Nichole Thompson hit a shot to shallow leftfield, bouncing past Anne Steffan, bring Scaglione and Mascarenas into score, allowing Thompson to reach second. She would go onto advance to third on a passed ball by Collins. Jackie Coburn would bring in the Heat’s last run of the inning, allowing Thompson to score from third on a hit to Jamie Clark at shortstop. The Heat would leave the first with the early 5-0 lead.

The Bandits turned the ballgame around as Gina Oaks fired a bullet at LaDonia Hughes, over at shortstop, who bobbled the ball, allowing Oaks to beat the throw to the base. The team’s momentum would continue as Trena Peel singled up the middle, advancing Oaks to second. With Stacy May coming to the plate, she rocketed a ball off the glove of Heat second baseman, Nichole Thompson, allowing Oaks to score from second, and Peel and May to advance to second and third, on the throw home to try and tag out Oaks. Anne Steffan would load the bases for the Bandits after earning a walk, followed by Clark who would also walk, bringing in the Bandits’ second run of the inning. With Trimboli coming to the plate, she lined a ball to the right side, bring in Peel and May into safely score. On the
overthrow home to the plate by Heat right fielder, Kaleo Eldredge , Clark would sneak into score at home as well, as Trimboli made her way to second. Collins would then hit a stand up double off the center field wall, allowing Trimboli to score at home.

After the Bandits’ rally, they were able to exit the third with a 6-5 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Harms would start off the inning with a beautiful bunt single to the right side. She would then move over to second with her fourth stolen base of the season. Next up was May, who hit a single to Heat Shortstop, Toni Mascarenas, making a throwing error over to first, allowing Harms to reach third, and May advancing to second. Anne Steffan continued by hitting a shot to Thompson at second, who tried to throw out Harms braking for home. Thompson’s throw home got past Coburn at home, allowing Harms and May to score at home. This would increase the Bandits lead to 8-5.

As the Bandits entered the fifth, they were not able to get their offense going the same way that they had earlier, so Collins took things into her own hands, by belting her first homerun off the season over the left center fence. With the help of Collins’ homerun, the Bandits lead was boosted to 9-5.

The scoring would not stop as the Bandits entered the bottom of the sixth, as May hit a ball to right field. On an error by Eldredge in right, May was able to advance to third with ease. To give the Bandits their final run of the night, Megan Ciolli singled to right field, scoring May from third.

After scoring ten runs in the ballgame, off of only seven hits, the Bandits completed the sweep against the Arizona Heat. This increases their record to 20-3, and their win streak to 14.

The Bandits will return back to Benedictine University next Thursday at 7:05 p.m. to battle it out in a four game series against the Philadelphia Force.
