Texas Falls to Team Canada 7-1

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – The Texas Thunder lost its third straight game to Team Canada on Saturday night by a final score of 7-1 to fall to 17-26 on
the season in front of 421 at Big League Dreams in League City.

The Canadian National Team wasted very little time to get on the board on Saturday, as they pushed runs across in the first three innings of the game. Canada scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a hit and a couple of fielding miscues by the Thunder to take the early lead. They would add a single run in the second inning to make the score 3-0. The biggest offensive inning for Canada came in the top of the third when they scored three times to put the game out of reach. Canada used four hits, including RBI doubles from Jennifer Salling and Melanie Matthews, to score their runs.

Texas managed to score just one run in the game and that came in the bottom of the second inning. The run came in to score thanks in large part to a little wildness from Canada pitcher Kaila Holtz. Holtz walked three players in the inning with the third walk bringing in the Thunder's only run of the game. The Thunder had a chance to score more in the inning, but they left the bases loaded to end the frame. The Thunder
offense didn't do much more in the game, as they only managed to get runners on base again in the fifth inning.

Holtz picked up the win for Canada on the night helping them to wins in the first three games of the series. The tall right-hander from UMass went the distance allowing four hits and just one run in the game. She struck out five and walked three in the contest.

Nicole Neuerburg got the start in the circle for the Thunder and went a combined 2 1/3 innings in the game. Neuerburg went the first 1 1/3 innings in the game before giving way to Thursday night's starter Serena Settlemier. In relief, Settlemier went 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs. Neuerburg came in to finish the game for Texas and pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Overall, Neuerburg gave up four hits
and three earned runs.

Texas will conclude its four-game series with Team Canada on Saturday night at the Big League Dreams Sports Complex in League City. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and staff ace Christa Williams is expected to be in the circle for the Thunder.
